Tea is an aromatic beverage prepared by pouring hot or boiling water over cured or fresh leaves of Camellia sinensis, an evergreen shrub native to China, India and other East Asian countries.Tea is also rarely made from the leaves of Camellia taliensis. After water, it is the most widely consumed drink in the world.There are many different types of tea some have a cooling, slightly bitter, and astringent flavour, while others have vastly different profiles that include sweet, nutty, floral, or grassy notes. Tea has a stimulating effect in humans primarily due to its caffeine content. Agha Mohammad Khan Qajar, Kashif al-Saltanah is well-known as the “Father of Iranian Tea”, was the first to popularize tea cultivation in Iran. 

Kashif al-Saltanah, who had traveled to India for educational purposes, became acquainted with the tea industry, and before returning to Iran,  bought some tea seeds along with 4,000 pots of tea, coffee, hemp seeds, cinnamon, pepper, cloves, cardamom, mango, and quince. He prepared quinoa, camphor, turmeric root, ginger, etc. and brought them to Iran with great difficulty in year1906, because at that time the tea industry was monopolized and it was illegal to export the seeds of this plant from India. Some have said that Qawanlu Kashif al-Saltanah hide some tea seeds in his cane thus imported the tea to Iran. Therefore, less than two centuries have passed since drinking and cultivating tea in Iran (Lahijan).
